Ramón - Tall Black Trees
Raised in the notorious nightclub district of Benidorm, Ramon arrived in the UK in a post-punk, Thatcherite eighties and found himself drawn into the new romantic, early hip-hop electro scene — and into an enduring, largely undefended affection for Adam and the Ants, Depeche Mode, and a few other things he's not ready to apologise for.
It was Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Radiohead, Richard Thompson, the Smiths and Elbow who eventually put a guitar in his hands and set him writing songs.
He went on to support a roster of artists that tells its own story: Suzanne Vega, Roy Harper, Damien Rice, Bert Jansch, John Renbourn, Supergrass, Shed Seven, Dodgy, Longpigs and Placebo.
Signed to Chrysalis Music via Fishsoup Records — the label run by Bic Hayes, the quietly legendary "other" guitarist in the Pet Shop Boys — Ramon recorded his debut album Foot of Film with producer Choque Hosein of Black Star Liner. Released in September 2004, the record is being reissued on limited-edition vinyl in 2026, marking 20 years since its original release.
Now Ramon fronts Tall Black Trees, the collective that has become the main vehicle for his most ambitious work to date. New material is due before summer 2026 — music that is distinctly cinematic in scope, built around hooks and themes that will find their mark with anyone who takes their listening seriously.
